A quiet Malaysian bedroom at night beside a wall-mounted inverter
Safety & noise

Two things you only
notice when they
go wrong.

Nobody buys an inverter for its arc-fault detection or how loud it runs. Both only become interesting the day the roof catches fire or something starts whining at 3am.

Safety

What actually goes wrong on a solar roof

A DC array is live whenever the sun is on it. You cannot switch the panels off, so the protection has to be built into the equipment.

Arc faults

A corroded or loosened DC connector can sustain an arc at several thousand degrees. AFCI detects the electrical signature and disconnects the string before it becomes an ignition source.

Lightning surge

Malaysia sees some of the highest lightning density in the world. A Type II surge protection device on the DC side gives that energy a path to earth instead of through the electronics.

Water and dust

IP66 means dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets — the honest test for a wall-mounted enclosure through a monsoon season.

Noise

Where inverter noise actually comes from

Two sources: the cooling fan, and electromagnetic hum from the magnetics. The fan is the loud one, and it is the one that can be designed out.

The moving part

No fan, no fan noise

GoodWe rates the ESA Series All-in-One at 30 dB, and lists the ET PLUS+ Series as fanless — heat leaves through the casing by convection rather than forced air.

Longevity

One less thing to fail

Fans draw in dust and humid air, and bearings wear. Removing the fan removes the maintenance item and the ingress path with it.

Placement

Mount it where it suits you

Silent operation means the inverter can sit near a bedroom wall, a car porch or a reception area without becoming a complaint.
